How to Prepare a Room to Be Painted - Part I

House painting is a big deal, especially when you have paid for painting services to have a room inside your home painted a different color. You can't just leave everything in the room as is if you expect it all to stay in good shape so it is important to take certain steps in making sure that your room is ready to be painted.

There is always a chance that you will be provided with a list of things to do in order to prepare for the painting services but if you want to cover all of your bases, you will want to keep the following things in consideration.
Move and Cover Your Furniture
If you can move your furniture and decorative items out of the room altogether it would be your best bet, however this is usually not possible. Instead you can move all of the furniture into the middle of the room, stacking stuff if need be, and then cover it all up with sheets or painting covers.
In reality you can cover your furniture with anything you want to use as long as it will protect it all from accidentally getting splashed during the house painting job. Visit a local hardware store in order to find affordable coverings for this purpose.

Protect Your Floor and Outlets

You will want to put throw sheets or covers on the floor around the room to protect it from paint, and you will also want to tape all of the edges of the room, against the wall, to make sure that when the bottom half of the walls are painted nothing can possibly get onto the floor.

You also need to tape up all of your outlets unless you want them to get clogged up with paint and become unusable. When taping, be as accurate as possible if you want to avoid any paint at all getting anywhere but on the walls. If you aren't painting the ceiling, it's a good idea to tape the ceiling along the edges of the wall as well.
Patch Any Knicks or Holes
It is important to make sure that your walls are totally flush if you want to get the best look from the painting services you invest in. You can putty and plaster any small holes (even big nail holes from your hung paintings and pictures should be covered up) in order to make them flush with the rest of the wall.
You should also sand any little nicks or other flaws on the wall before they are painted in order to get a uniform look and feel for your room. Don't be afraid to use a pencil to mark all the blemishes on the walls that need your attention before they are painted.
