Bring Your Walls Up to Date Painting textures and house painting - Part II

Painting Textured Walls
Painting smooth walls is much easier than painting textured walls. Textured walls require a heavy roller nap for applying the paint to the walls and the rough surface often wears down the nap quickly. It is also very difficult to cut in the ceiling and baseboards.

A brush bumps along over the rough surface and a straight edge becomes impossible. Paint working its way on to the ceiling is hard to avoid as well. In addition, the rough texture requires more paint to cover completely and two coats are more often need than on a flat finished wall.

Flat Finish Or An Eggshell Finish
The new paints that are now on the market have excellent pigmentation and sheen and make house painting projects much more enjoyable to do. Whether you choose a flat finish or an eggshell finish, flat walls look better when these paints are used than do textured walls.

Flat surfaces reflect the light much better and the paint looks richer. That is more than likely why the new trend is toward flat surfaced walls and away from textured walls.

When Walls Are Tastefully Painted
Painting textures is not easy and painting textured walls can quickly date the look of your room. You may have the rest of your decorating right on target with today’s trends but with textured walls as your backdrop, it is quickly lost. Walls are the canvass upon which you paint the look and feel of a room.

When walls are tastefully painted, they will not stand out or be noticed. They will instead simply provide the backdrop for your furniture and décor. They may even go unnoticed, but flat surfaced walls painted in the right color and finish will enhance the overall look of your room.
